Meet Miguel Estrada, Financial Planning Intern

At Savaglia Financial Advisors, we believe great financial planning is about more than helping clients today, it’s also about investing in the next generation of professionals who will help families dream, plan, and enjoy for years to come. 

This month, we're excited to introduce Miguel, our Financial Planning Intern. While he's only been with SFA for a few short weeks, his enthusiasm for learning, passion for helping others, and genuine curiosity about the financial planning profession have already made a lasting impression on our team.

🎓 A Familiar Face at SFA

For Miguel, joining Savaglia Financial Advisors felt a little like coming home.

In fact, his connection to SFA began long before his internship.

"My family has been clients of Savaglia Financial Advisors since before I was even born," Miguel shares.

Last year, Miguel spent a day shadowing Crystal and Larry in the office and immediately found himself drawn to the collaborative environment and meaningful work being done every day. When the opportunity arose to join the team as an intern, he jumped at the chance.

Today, Miguel is studying Finance with a Concentration in Financial Planning at Marquette University, where he's building the foundation for what he hopes will be a rewarding career helping others achieve their financial goals.

📈 Discovering a Passion for Financial Planning

Miguel's interest in financial planning developed through a combination of personal experiences, education, and family influence.

During high school, he was actively involved in DECA, a business-focused organization that challenged students through problem-solving competitions and real-world business scenarios. Through those experiences, he discovered his love for business, finance, and helping others solve complex challenges.

At the same time, his parents played a major role in shaping his future aspirations.

His mother, a small business owner with a passion for entrepreneurship and personal finance, introduced him to financial concepts from a young age. His father spent much of his career as a social worker, helping underserved members of the community navigate difficult situations.

Together, they instilled two values that continue to guide Miguel today: financial responsibility and service to others.

"I see financial advising as an opportunity to uplift those in need and serve my community through financial literacy and education," he says.

💡 Learning Beyond the Numbers

One of the biggest surprises Miguel has discovered so far is that financial planning isn't just about investments, spreadsheets, or market research.

"Hearing the advisors talk about how much of their job involves emotional and personal conversations with clients surprised me," he explains.

Rather than discouraging him, that realization made him even more excited about the profession.

"I was relieved to learn that so much of the work is spent building relationships and helping people through important life decisions."

Throughout his internship, Miguel hopes to gain a deeper understanding of the day-to-day realities of financial planning so he can focus his studies on the areas that will be most valuable in his future career.

🏡 Rooted in Community

Miguel grew up in Menomonee Falls, where he enjoyed being part of a close-knit neighborhood and attending schools in the highly regarded Hamilton School District.

He credits those experiences with helping shape him academically, socially, and personally.

Today, that same sense of community continues to influence how he views his future career.

🌊 Life Outside the Office

When he isn't studying finance, Miguel stays busy with a variety of activities at Marquette University.

He's actively involved in:

• Marquette Waterski Club
• Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Club
• Personal Finance Club

His involvement in the university's Investment Club has further fueled his interest in the investment side of financial planning and wealth management.

And if he had a walk-up song?

A fitting choice for someone who brings plenty of energy and enthusiasm wherever he goes.

✈️ Always Looking for New Experiences

One piece of advice has had a significant impact on Miguel's outlook on life.

In a psychology course, one of his professors explained that our perception of time is often shaped by how many new experiences we encounter. The more we challenge ourselves and try new things, the fuller and richer life feels.

Miguel has taken that lesson to heart.

In fact, one of his next big adventures is studying abroad in Madrid, Spain, where he'll spend time learning Spanish, exploring a new culture, and stepping outside of his comfort zone.

It's exactly the kind of experience he believes helps people continue growing throughout life.

💙 Why He Loves Being Part of SFA

For Miguel, one of the most rewarding parts of his internship has been the support he's received from the entire team.

"Everyone is willing to help me and teach me about whatever project or task is at hand. I feel well supported and surrounded by people who genuinely care about my development and learning."

That collaborative spirit is one of the things that makes Savaglia Financial Advisors special, and one of the reasons we're excited to help mentor the next generation of financial professionals.

When asked to describe himself in three words, Miguel chose:
